The Complete Chrome Web Store Screenshot Spec — Every Size, Every Slot Explained

The Chrome Web Store has 3 image slots, each with a specific job. Most developers fill only one. The top extensions fill all three — and craft each one with a clear goal.

Slot 1: Small Tile (440×280px) — REQUIRED

This is the most important image in your entire listing. It appears in search results, category pages, and discovery feeds. Users see this before they've clicked anything.

Best practice: Dark background + single bold claim + your logo. No screenshots here — it's too small. Think of it as a mini-billboard.

Slot 2: Screenshots (1280×800px) — REQUIRED (1–5)

These are the main slides on your extension detail page. Minimum 1, maximum 5. Shotmatic generates 3 by default based on conversion data from top extensions.

  • Slide 1: Your strongest feature + bold headline
  • Slides 2–3: Supporting features with UI in context
  • Slide 4–5 (optional): Social proof, testimonials, or edge case features

Slot 3: Marquee Banner (1400×560px) — Optional but impactful

Google uses this if they decide to feature your extension. Most developers skip it. Don't skip it — creating it takes 2 minutes and makes you eligible for Featured placement.
